What feminism actually means?

 

Feminism is "the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social and economic EQUALITY to men." It basically aims at devoting equal rights to women, removing all the negativity that demonstrates that women are inferior to men in any way. But people still misinterpret the term "feminism" and take it in a complete wrong direction.

Here are a few things that word "feminism" doesn't mean:

• Feminism doesn't mean man-hating

Feminism is not about destroying men, but at destroying the patriarchal ideas that are widely spread in the society. Feminism is NOT about treating men as 'trash' but rather it's about pointing out the people who try to degrade women. Hating men doesn't mean Feminism, that is misandry.

• Feminism doesn't mean women are superior to men

Many people believe in this term. This is a misconception a lot of people have in their minds that feminism means women are superior to men which is incorrect. Feminism is not about to devalue other genders but to encourage both the genders, providing EQUAL rights, EQUAL treatment to both the genders whether on professional level or personal level.

• Feminism is not only about women

A lot of people think that only women can be feminist. But that is not the case. You don't have to be a woman to support equal rights for women. Men can also be feminists and its preference has nothing to do with gender. 

• Feminism doesn't mean supporting only career women and not supporting stay-at-home women

Feminism encourages equality of both male and female as well as it supports all women. Feminism is a concept which respects a woman who stays at home and raises a family as much as it encourages a women who steps out to make her career and follow her dreams. Feminism supports every women and also against any gender discrimination.

• Male feminists are not against their own gender

Feminism is not about a fight against two sexes. If you take stand for equality between men and women, you are not betraying your own gender. In fact, this is something you should be proud of.
